Opus 3 (2025)

Cello Bertram Brenig Opus 3 from  2025 (‘Britta’).

Description: After many years I finally have time again to pursue my passion for cello making, and so Opus 3 ‘Britta’ (4/4) was born. The top is made of mountain spruce wood that has been seasoned for about 20 years with a density of 0.41 g/cm³ (8% FG) and slightly wider but even annual rings. The ribs and back are made of very evenly and gracefully flamed sycamore maple. The upper and lower bout widths are about 20 mm wider than the average dimensions of late Stradivari celli from the early 18th century (e.g. Gore-Booth 1710, Davidoff 1712, Batta-Piatigorsky 1714, Amaryllis Fleming 1717, Bein Fruh 1717).

Body length (back): 755 mm

Upper bout width: 360 mm

Width of the C-bout: 235 mm

Lower bout width: 450 mm

Fingerboard length: 580 mm

Fingerboard: Ebony with Romberg bevel

String length (vibrating): 695 mm

Bridge: Belgian model (Despiau®)

Pegs: Wittner® fine tuning pegs

Tailpiece: Plastic (Wittner®)

Strings: Thomastik Spirocore (medium)

Op. 3 has a clear and powerful sound with exceptional projection. It responds easily and quickly. I currently play op. 3 in many different music ensembles and it has also been played with great passion by various cellists on loan.
