Opus 1 (1982)
Cello Bertram Brenig Opus 1 from 1982.
Description: My first cello (4/4), which I made during my studies, unfortunately no longer exists. It had special dimensions and was more like the early Cremonese cellos of the late 17th century. A special feature was that I used grenadilla (Dalbergia melanoxylon) instead of ebony for the fingerboard, the tailpiece, the pegs and the upper and lower saddles. The top was made of fine hazel spruce, the back of beautifully flamed sycamore maple.
Although it was fitted with a French bridge, the cello had a brilliant sound with exceptional power in the lower registers and tremendous projection. I played the cello for many years in both chamber music ensembles and orchestras.
